The Azerbaijani Ministry of Internal Affairs warns of a rise in fraud targeting single and elderly people

In recent days, Azerbaijan has seen an increase in fraud cases targeting elderly and single citizens, Report informs, citing the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Unknown individuals are calling citizens, posing as children, grandchildren, or close relatives, and demanding money under false pretenses. Specifically, the scammers claim to have been involved in a traffic accident or to urgently require major surgery.

It is noted that the scammers typically use foreign phone numbers, provide false information, and insist on urgently transferring funds. In some cases, the scammers specifically target elderly and single individuals, sending couriers to their homes to collect cash or arranging online transfers.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs urges citizens to always verify information received over the phone and not transfer money to strangers. If you suspect any fraudulent activity or suspect a fraudulent scheme, please contact the 102 Call Center immediately.

The agency urged the public to be vigilant and exercise particular caution to avoid becoming victims of such crimes.
