The Baku Court of Grave Crimes continues to hear the criminal case against Siraj Samedov and his close relative, Sahil Nakhmetov, accused of embezzling nearly 2 million manats belonging to individuals. As reported by Oxu.Az, during a regular hearing chaired by Judge Elnur Nuriyev, the victims’ lawyers filed a motion to change Nakhmetov’s pretrial detention. They based their request on the fact that the defendant has yet to compensate for the damages caused.
The court granted the motion. The previously issued pretrial detention order against Nakhmetov was replaced with pretrial detention. The defendant was handcuffed and taken into custody in the courtroom.
The next court hearing is scheduled for January 30.
S. Samedov and S. Nakhmetov were held liable under Article 178.4 (fraud on an especially large scale) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
