The Supreme Court of Azerbaijan upheld the sentence of a blackmailing journalist

The Supreme Court of Azerbaijan concluded a cassation appeal hearing against Asim Aliyev, who is accused of extortion through threats, oxu.az reports. The ruling was announced during the trial, presided over by Judge Zaur Huseynov, dismissing the appeal.

A. Aliyev, the owner of the Saatlı TV channel and the 13Asim13 TikTok profile, was detained by the Main Department for Combating Organized Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Azerbaijan.

Posing as an independent journalist, Asim Aliyev threatened officials with disseminating negative information about them on his social media accounts and channels, demanding various sums of money in exchange for their silence.

By the decision of the Lankaran Court of Grave Crimes, Asim Aliyev was sentenced to six years and six months in prison.
