The appeal against the verdict against Shokhret Mammadov, accused of treason by following the instructions of foreign intelligence services, has been reviewed. As reported by APA, the decision was made at a hearing in the Baku Court of Appeal, chaired by Judge Ramin Garagurbanli.
The court dismissed the appeal and upheld the first-instance verdict. Shokhret Mammadov had previously been sentenced to 16 years in prison by the Baku Military Court.
The accused was detained last March as a result of an operation by the State Security Service of Azerbaijan. He was charged under Article 274 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan: treason, committed through espionage to the detriment of the sovereignty, territorial integrity, state security, and defense capability of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
