In January 2026, approximately 23 million manat worth of drugs were seized in Azerbaijan

In January 2026, law enforcement agencies identified 793 drug-related crimes, Oxu.Az reports, citing a report from the Standing Working Group of the State Commission to Combat Drug Abuse and Illegal Drug Trafficking. Of these, 162 cases involved the illegal sale of drugs, 630 cases involved the illegal acquisition and possession, and 1 case involved other related crimes.

“A total of 893 kg 456 g of narcotics and psychotropic substances were seized from illegal circulation, including 765 kg 86.6 g of marijuana, 76 kg 396 g of heroin, 23 kg 339 g of opium, 20 kg 32.8 g of hashish, 6 kg 43.5 g of other narcotics, and 2 kg 557.9 g of psychotropic substances. The estimated black market value of the seized narcotics and psychotropic substances is approximately 22.8 million manat,” the report states.
