Convicted of fraud at EMV Dent Clinic

Elshan Zakharov (born 1972), a resident of the Sharur district and a dentist at the EMV Dent clinic in Baku, posed as the owner of the medical facility to a patient and embezzled a large amount of money, Oxu.Az reports, citing Teleqraf. During the patient’s treatment, he established a trusting relationship with Tahir Huseynov. Having gained his trust, Zakharov provided false information about the possibility of making a high profit by jointly investing in dental implants, X-ray equipment, and Scanner CAD/CAM machines.
After convincing the victim, on November 29, 2023, in his office at the EMV Dent clinic, the accused, under this pretext, received a total of 151,000 manat from Huseynov and then embezzled the money.
The investigative body charged E. Zakharov under Article 178.2.3 (fraud) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
By the Baku Court of Grave Crimes, E. Zakharov was found guilty and sentenced to six years and six months in prison.
The victim’s civil claim was partially upheld. The court ordered the civil defendant to pay 151,000 manat in material damages and 444 manat in state fees. The victim initially sought compensation of 154,000 manat.
The appeals of both the accused and the victim were dismissed.
