The pretrial detention of another officer accused of smuggling a large shipment of cigarettes into the country by sea has been extended. According to Oxu.Az, Captain Vusal Sadigov, head of the Neftchala Coast Guard Department, has appeared in court again.
The prosecutor stated that a three-month period is insufficient to complete the extensive criminal case. Considering the defendant’s potential influence on the investigation, the prosecution requested an extension of the pretrial detention measure.
Despite objections from the defense, the judge found the motion justified. According to the ruling, Captain Vusal Sadigov’s pretrial detention has been extended for another three months.
Dozens of people have been arrested in connection with this criminal case. The criminal case is being handled by the Main Anti-Corruption Directorate under the Prosecutor General’s Office.
