A Quarter-Million Scam: How Fraudsters Embezzled Money Under the Pretense of Buying Apartments from MİDA

The trial of a criminal case involving large-scale fraud in the real estate market continued in Baku. In the dock are Anar Khaziyev, Rasim Aliyev, Shamsia Ismayilova, and Ruslan Hasanov. This enterprising quartet is accused of a large-scale scam: taking advantage of the high demand for subsidized real estate, they defrauded gullible citizens out of large sums under the false pretense of getting apartments from the State Housing Development Agency (MİDA) ahead of the queue.

As reported by Oxu.Az, the latest hearing was held at the Baku Court of Grave Crimes under the presidency of Judge Fakhri Mammadov. The hearing continued with testimony from the victims.

The next court hearing is scheduled for April 21.

The entire criminal quartet has been charged under Article 178.3.2 (fraud causing large-scale damage) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

According to investigative documents, the total damage caused to citizens as a result of this scam exceeds 240,000 manat.
