A sentence passed on a person accused of financing terrorism

The trial of Namig Nabiyev, a criminal case brought by the State Security Service (SSS) of Azerbaijan on charges of financing terrorism, has concluded, Oxu.Az reports. The verdict was read at a hearing at the Baku Grave Crimes Court, chaired by Judge Nigar Imanova. The court sentenced Namig Nabiyev to 10 years and 6 months in prison.
Nabiyev, who was detained by the SSS, was charged under Articles 167-3.1 (possession of religious extremist materials) and 214-1 (financing terrorism) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
According to the indictment, in connection with the ongoing armed conflict in the Syrian Arab Republic, Namig Nabiyev transferred funds totaling $28,479 to bank accounts opened in the names of third parties at various times beginning in 2022. These funds were reportedly sent to the terrorist organization Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) and used to purchase weapons and other means used in terrorist activities.
