72 kg of drugs seized from 6 drug couriers

72 kg of drugs were discovered and seized in the Nasimi district of Baku, Report informs, citing the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

According to the information, suspected drug couriers Saleh Soltanov, 31, were found in possession of 14 kg 240 g of opium and marijuana; Eldaniz Bagirov, 46, was found in possession of 17 kg 350 g of marijuana and 200 methadone tablets; Nijat Huseynov, 22, and his acquaintance Zeynalkhan Suleymanov, 31, were found in possession of 18 kg 620 g of marijuana; and Rauf Aleskerov, 43, and Baba Azizov, 28, were found in possession of 22 kg of hashish, opium, and marijuana.

The detainees stated in their testimony that they purchased the drugs through Iranian citizens they met on social media and planned to deliver them to various addresses in Baku.

A criminal case has been opened. By court order, the detainees have been remanded in custody.

It is noted that in the first three months of this year, officers from the Nasimi District Police Department seized 156 kg of various narcotic and psychotropic substances, as well as 2,000 methadone tablets, from illegal circulation.
