A former tax department accountant will stand trial for embezzlement

The preliminary investigation against Rashad Babayev, the former chief accountant of Territorial Tax Department No. 4 of the State Tax Service of Azerbaijan, accused of large-scale embezzlement, has been completed, Report informs, citing the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The investigation established that between 2022 and 2025, Babayev, using his official position, submitted false information in official documents and information resources and transferred money to his salary account, misappropriating funds entrusted to him.

Babayev has been charged under Articles 179.3.2 (large-scale embezzlement) and 313 (forgery in office) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. Police supervision has been imposed as a preventive measure.

The criminal case has been sent to the Sumgayit Court for Grave Crimes.
