An Azerbaijani citizen accused of serious crimes will be extradited from Turkey

An Azerbaijani citizen accused of serious crimes will be extradited from Turkey, Oxu.Az reports, citing the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office.

It is noted that, in accordance with the requirements of the European Convention on Extradition, competent Turkish authorities granted the Prosecutor General’s Office’s request to extradite Azerbaijani citizen Sabuter Adil oglu Babayev.

During the investigation, reasonable suspicions arose that Babayev was involved in the smuggling of large quantities of narcotic, psychotropic, and potent substances through Azerbaijan’s customs point as part of an organized criminal group, as well as the illegal acquisition, storage, transportation, and sale of these substances.

A decision was made to prosecute Sabuter Babayev. He was placed on the international wanted list for evading investigation. Following operational search activities, Babayev was detained in Turkey.

The Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice is taking the necessary measures for his extradition to Azerbaijan.
