The verdict was announced for the person accused of treason

The final court hearing was held in the criminal case brought by the State Security Service of Azerbaijan against Turalbey Mehdiyev, who is accused of treason at the behest of foreign government representatives.

According to Oxu.az, the verdict was announced at the trial in the Baku Court of Grave Crimes, presided over by Judge Firdovsi Aliyev. The court sentenced T. Mehdiyev to 16 years’ imprisonment in a high-security correctional facility.

Turalbey Mehdiyev was found guilty under Articles 274 (high treason), 281.3 (public calls against the state, committed on the instructions of foreign organizations or their representatives) and 283.1 (actions aimed at inciting national, racial, social or religious hatred and enmity, humiliation of national dignity, as well as actions aimed at limiting the rights of citizens, or establishing the superiority of citizens on the basis of their national or racial, social affiliation, attitude to religion, if these acts are committed publicly, including with the use of the media) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
