The Baku Court of Grave Crimes concluded the trial of 34-year-old Hasan Mamedov (not his real name), accused of participating in illegal armed groups on foreign territory.
According to Oxu.Az, according to case materials, in 2022, while serving a sentence in Russia, he was recruited to participate in hostilities. The defendant accepted the offer to participate in combat and was assigned to a reconnaissance unit as a grenade launcher operator, where he fought in the battle for Bakhmut.
He was wounded during the fighting and received treatment in Anapa. In 2024, he was detained by Russian migration authorities and deported to Azerbaijan, after which he was detained by the State Security Service.
The defendant pleaded guilty in court. A medical examination confirmed he had shrapnel wounds.
The court found Gasan Mamedov guilty and sentenced him to five years in prison.
