Travel agency founder arrested

The Baku Court of Grave Crimes held another court hearing in the criminal case against Rashad Ilyasov and Narmin Fatullayeva, founders of Joy Tour LLC and Joy Travel, accused of embezzling large sums of money from citizens under the guise of organizing tours to various foreign countries. As reported by Oxu.Az, at the hearing, chaired by Judge Elmin Rustamov, the victims filed a motion for the arrest of the defendants, who had been placed on non-custodial pretrial detention. The grounds for this motion were the failure to compensate the victims for damages during the period in question.
Following the hearing, the victims’ motion was partially granted, the pretrial detention for Rashad Ilyasov was changed, and he was arrested in the courtroom.
The next court hearing is scheduled for June 8.
It was noted that the investigation revealed that R. Ilyasov and N. Fatullayeva defrauded a significant number of citizens, embezzling 360,000 manat from 40 people under the guise of organizing air tickets and tours to various foreign countries.
During the investigation, only a small portion of the embezzled funds was returned to the victims.
A criminal case has been opened against both individuals under Article 178.3.2 (fraud committed causing significant damage) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and charges have been filed.
