The trial of Maharram Aliyev, Gurbankhan Iskandarov, and Yashar Heydarov, accused of large-scale embezzlement of public funds, has concluded. As Oxu.Az reports, citing APA, the verdict was announced at a hearing in the Lankaran Court of Grave Crimes, presided over by Judge Ayshan Veliyeva.
The court sentenced Maharram Aliyev to a suspended sentence with a two-year probationary period, Gurbankhan Iskandarov to two years, one month, and five days in prison, and Yashar Heydarov to two years and six months of restricted freedom.
The house arrest imposed on Gurbankhan Iskandarov has been counted toward his sentence, and it is considered served. The house arrest imposed on him has been revoked, and a travel ban has been imposed until the verdict comes into force. It is noted that the majority of the damages caused to the state by the defendants have been compensated. The total damages in the case amounted to 66,472.17 manat.
The investigation revealed grounds for suspicion that Magerram Aliyev, while serving as the head of the Masalli District Inter-Farm Enterprise for Technical Support from August 24, 2022 to October 31, 2023, acted in collusion with the institution’s chief accountant, Gurbankhan Iskenderov, and abused his official position to embezzle more than 73,000 manat from budget funds entrusted to him, with the assistance of Yashar Heydarov, director of Məhəmməd-2022 LLC. He also committed official forgery by knowingly submitting false information in official documents for selfish motives.
Based on the collected evidence, M. Aliyev was charged under Articles 179.3.2 (embezzlement or misappropriation on a large scale), 308.1 (abuse of office) and 313 (forgery), G. Iskenderov and Ya. Heydarov were charged under Articles 32.5, 179.2.3 and 32.5, 179.2.4 (aiding and abetting misappropriation using official position and causing significant damage), 308.1, 313 and other articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
