Details of the operation at the Main Customs Administration

Details of the operation conducted by the Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office at the Main Customs Administration for Air Transport of the State Customs Committee (SCC) have been revealed, Oxu.az reports. The operation was prompted by an attempt to smuggle gold into the country on an especially large scale.

A group of individuals, having entered into a preliminary criminal conspiracy, intended to transport gold jewelry worth millions of manats into the country by air. Ismayil Aliyev, Deputy Shift Supervisor of the Main Customs Administration for Air Transport, assisted the smugglers in their plan.

The criminal case has been accepted for prosecution directly by the Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office. A criminal case has been opened under Article 206.4 (smuggling on an especially large scale committed by an organized group) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Initially, charges under this article were brought against Deputy Shift Supervisor I. Aliyev, for whom the court ordered a preventive measure in the form of arrest.

Furthermore, several other agency employees were questioned as part of the investigation into this crime, some of whom were brought into the investigation.

Investigative actions in the case are currently ongoing.

It is noted that the head of the Main Customs Directorate for Air Transport of the State Customs Committee is Major General Anar Jahangirov. At this time, the agency has not officially commented on the incident.
