14,251 crimes have been recorded in Azerbaijan over the first half of 2016, said Azerbaijani First Deputy Interior Minister, Lieutenant General Vilayat Eyvazov, APA reports.

He made the remarks at the board meeting held in the ministry on Friday, 08.07.2016.

Disclose of crimes has increased to become 84.4%. The deputy minister noted that 94.2% or 13,429 of the 14,251 crimes recorded during the reporting period were investigated on a preliminary basis by interior and prosecuting agencies. Of them, 85.2% were the ones unlikely to pose a public threat or moderately grave and the remaining 14.8% of them were grave and especially grave crimes.

Of the crimes against people, deliberate murder constituted 5.2%, rape 16.7%, hijacking of vehicles 13%, hooliganism 6.4%, traffic accidents 13.4%, deaths from road accidents 25.3%, and injuries 13.2%.

Based on the information received by 102 call center, 2,759 offences were prevented. 2,022 criminal cases were initiated. 162 crimes were solved through “Safe City” service. 6,366 road accidents and 135 pedestrian-vehicle accidents were disclosed. 68 cars were detained.

The results of search of the accused and suspects have improved to become 4,1%, and 1,536 people avoiding investigation and judicial bodies were arrested.

Places of 51 people wanted by Interpol’s National Central Bureau and 26 others wanted by member states of the organization were revealed. 56.8 percent of wanted persons were arrested. 141 criminal groups having committed 611 grave and especially grave crimes were rendered harmless. 90 people were prosecuted for illegal possession and carrying of firearms.

18 facrs of manufacturing or sale of counterfeit money were revealed. Consequently, 347 banknotes in a total amount of AZN 24,700 and USD 10,000, as well as nearly 13 tons of expired food products and construction materials were withdrawn from circulation.

On 1,675 drug-related facts and 429 facts on drug sale, a total of 609 kg drugs were seized, 177 kg more compared with 6 months of last year. As a result of operational and preventive measures, 31 criminal groups were detained, the smuggling of 62.8 kg of drugs was prevented, and a total of 102 tones of hemp and poppy plants were burned.

93 crimes of human trafficking were revealed, that is 16.2% more compared with first half of 2015. As a result of investigation of criminal cases launched on these facts, 16 people were prosecuted, and 52 human trafficking victims were reintegrated into society.
