On 13 January 2016, in the administrative building of the Nasimi District Court has been continued the trial over the case of the former commander of the naval forces of the Ministry of Defence, Vice Admiral Shahin Sultanov, reports haqqın.az.

At the meeting, chaired by a judge of the Baku military court Habib Hasanov mad a speech lawyer Telman Abdiyev. He asked the court to acquit his client.

Then, the defendant asked the court for time to prepare for the last word.

The next court hearing is scheduled for January 19, 2017.

At the previous meeting, the public prosecutor asked the court to punish Shahin Sultanov to imprisonment for a term of 13 years.

In December 2016, Azerbaijan’s border guards detained 373 people wanted by the country’s law-enforcement bodies, the State Border Service told APA on January 13, 2017.

The border guards detained 58 people in 38 cases of violation of the state border during the reporting period.

Among them are 23 citizens of Azerbaijan, 7 – Ghana, 6 – Uzbekistan, 6 – Nigeria, 5 – Iran, 3- Bangladesh, 2 – Ukraine, and one from each country such as Kazakhstan, Russia, Turkey, Tajikistan, Cameroon and Kyrgyzstan.

The smuggling of drugs with total weight of 12 kilograms 460 gr. was prevented in 14 cases last month.

In a result of measures taken, the smuggling goods totally worth over 919,390 manats were seized in 73 cases including 7 rifles, 42 cartridges,10 portable radio sets, 14,655 boxes of pyrotechnic device, 10,000 Azerbaijani manats, 120,000 USD, 6,027 boxes of cigarettes of various brands, 31 mobile phones, 1 boat, 10,670 medical instruments, 603 different medicines and industrial products.
