As 1news reports, the Surakhany District Court of Baku completed examination of the case of blogger Mehman Huseynov charged in slander.

Court, chaired by Judge Jeyhun Gadimov, found M. Huseynov as guilty under Article 147.2. (The slander, is distribution of obviously false information which discredit honor and dignity of any person or undermining his reputation in public statement, publicly or in mass media shown products, which is connected with accusation of committing serious or especially serious crime) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan Republic and sentenced to 2 years of deprivation of freedom.

M. Huseynov was taken into custody in the courtroom.

Criminal case in respect of the blogger Mehman Huseynov was instituted in the basis of complaint of Musa Musayev, a chief of Nasimi District Police Department, who accused him in slander. After administrative arrest in the beginning of January current year, M. Huseynov stated that he was subjected to torture by the employees of this Department, what was confessed as a slander.

It is very pity and insulting.

One feels hurt for my country.

Nine extremists have been killed and four more arrested in Azerbaijan over the past six months, said Suad Mahmudov, an official of the country’s State Security Service.  

He made the remarks addressing a conference on the theme “The role of youth in the fight against terrorism, extremism and radicalism,” held in Baku March 3, 2017, APA reported.

“From 2012 on, some Azerbaijani citizens began to go to Turkey under the pretext of looking for a job. Then they crossed illegally the Syrian territory in order to join various terrorist groups,” said Mahmudov, noting that most of these people chose to join ISIL terrorist organization in Syria.
