“In Azerbaijan each of 7 arrested person is accused under Article 234 of the Criminal Code (illegal drugs purchasing)”.
According to APA, this was stated by Shahin Yusifov, a chairman of the Supreme Court collegiums, in the meeting of Judges Union Associations.
“One of the serious problems connected under Articles 234.1 of the Criminal Code. Today, each of seventh sentenced to imprisonment was accused under this article. Today there are a lot of persons in the prisons, detention centres, who sentenced under this article. Three days ago 65 prisoners applied us. They read decrees and see that position of the President is humane in respect of imprisoned people. They ask to assist for their releasing. Some assert that they have sentenced illegal. Being analyzed the examined cases, we also see that the police again involved in fulfillment of the plan. We have to explain the bodies carrying out criminal prosecution that they cannot do that. If he is drug addict, involved in drug trafficking then bring him to responsibility. I ask judges to approach carefully to that, not to allow the facts of illegal freedom’s deprivation. Certainly, there is some progress in this matter in comparison with the last years. There are justified verdicts, and we welcome that”.
