A woman accused of high treason has been arrested in Azerbaijan. APA reports that Yusifova Valida Elchin gizi was detained by the State Security Service.

The preliminary investigation into her case has been completed, the collected materials have been transferred for consideration to the Ganja Court of Serious Crimes. A preparatory court hearing is scheduled for April 15, 2024.

In March, smuggling worth 1,122,461 manats was detained at the state border of Azerbaijan, oxu.az reports with reference to the State Border Service.

It is reported that as part of the relevant measures, contraband with a total value of 1,122,461 manats was detained, including guns, ammunition, American and Russian currency, a stun gun, medicines, alcoholic beverages and tobacco products.

As part of the fight against drug smuggling, 178 kg 597 g of drugs and 8,178 drug-containing tablets were discovered and seized from illicit trafficking.

As a result of audits and monitoring conducted by the State Service for Special Communications and Information Security of Azerbaijan during 2023, security gaps were identified in 695 information resources of government institutions. As oxu.az reports, this was stated by Deputy Head of the State Service for Special Communications and Information Security of Azerbaijan Allahveren Ismayilov at a conference organized by the Prosecutor General’s Office on the topic “Digital criminal process: modern challenges and goals.”

According to him, digital crimes usually occur in cases where there are security gaps in an information resource.

A. Ismayilov noted that as a result of audits/pentests and monitoring carried out in government agencies over the same period in 2022, security gaps and flaws were discovered and eliminated in 553 government information systems.

By analyzing attempted cyber attacks, our service, identifying 1,162 special indicators of cyber attacks and blocking them in the AzStateNet network and email system, prevented targeted cyber attacks.

Constantly following modern trends in the field of digitalization, the Bar Association is working towards using the capabilities of artificial intelligence. Thus, the “Pro Bono” chat bot, prepared by the “Electronic Advocacy” committee of the college, will be put into operation in the near future. This bot will provide Pro Bono (free) legal assistance to citizens using artificial intelligence

As Trend reports, this was stated by the Chairman of the Presidium of the Azerbaijani Bar Association, Anar Bagirov, at a conference held today on the topic “Digital criminal process: modern challenges and goals.” According to him, final work is currently underway on the “Electronic Lawyer Request” project. “There are certain regulatory problems here.

Relevant draft regulations aimed at eliminating these problems have been developed jointly with the Ministry of Justice and are currently at the approval stage,” added A. Bagirov.

The e-justice platform will facilitate the flexible exchange of information between government agencies. As APA reports, Minister of Justice Farid Akhmedov said this during his speech at the conference “Digitalization of the criminal process: modern challenges and goals.”

Azerbaijan is currently experiencing a period of victory, said Kamran Aliyev, the Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan during his speech at a conference on Digital criminal process: Modern challenges and goals, APA reports. He said that all lands of Azerbaijan have been liberated, and construction and reconstruction works in the liberated areas are a source of pride.

Kamran Aliyev noted that work is underway to increase transparency and professionalism in law enforcement bodies: “Digitization is one of the key areas. This is a special area related to the criminal process. It already was necessary to make certain changes in the legislation.”

The Prosecutor General noted that as in all areas, digitalization in the implementation of justice, as well as in criminal proceedings, is a requirement of the modern era.

He noted that in Azerbaijan, several works about the application of digital technologies have been carried out in the activities of law enforcement bodies, as well as the prosecutor’s office: “The “Electronic Prosecutor’s Office” information system was created under President’s Decree dated May 7, 2021. From April 1, 2023, the main modules of the “Electronic Prosecutor’s Office” information system were put into use. From September 2023, the first steps towards digitalization of criminal prosecution were taken and the “Investigation” and “Criminal materials” modules of the information system were put into use. Currently, all criminal cases in progress in the prosecutor’s office and materials related to the investigation of information about committed or prepared crimes are implemented through these modules.”
