The trial in the criminal case of the former head of the Penitentiary Service of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Major General of Justice Tofig Hasanov, has ended. As reported by the Nakhchivan bureau of APA, today at a meeting chaired by Judge Huseyn Mammadov in the Nakhchivan Serious Crimes Court, the verdict was read out.

The first meeting of the Pardon Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan was held today, Rashad Majid, member of the commission, chairman of the Press Council told APA.

He said that the commission will consider more than 700 applications: “It will consider applications related to women, foreigners, military personnel, traffic accidents, life prisoners, etc. More than 100 applications were reviewed at the first meeting. Tense and productive discussions were held.”

Rashad Majid said that information will be given about the next meeting.

Based on numerous complaints received from citizens, employees of the Mingachevir city police department detained a resident of the capital, Khoshbekht Guliyev, suspected of fraud, oxu.az reports with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Thus, Kh. Guliyev fraudulently misappropriated funds from citizens in exchange for employment in various government agencies, assistance in obtaining social benefits, and others.

Kh. Guliyev introduced himself to the deceived persons as “Tunjay”. By a court decision, a preventive measure in the form of arrest was chosen against him.

Drug trafficking suspects detained

Employees of the Gobustan district police department detained previously convicted Kamil Huseynov and Orkhan Ibrahimov on suspicion of drug trafficking, oxu.az reports with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Thus, during the inspection, heroin was found and confiscated from K. Huseynov, and marijuana was also confiscated from O. Ibrahimov.

Criminal cases have been initiated based on these facts, and the investigation is ongoing.

In Azerbaijan, starting next year, all lawyer orders will be transferred to electronic format. Report informs, this was stated by the Chairman of the Presidium of the Azerbaijan Bar Association Anar Bagirov at the presentation of the “Electronic Lawyer Order” and other electronic services.

According to him, the “Electronic Lawyer Order” will be introduced in April and until the end of this year it will also be possible to use paper media. However, from 2025 all orders will be transferred to electronic format, he said.

“Previously, the warrant was issued on paper. Currently, work on the “Electronic Lawyer Request” project is being completed as a continuation of the “Electronic Lawyer Order” project. Modern technologies allow lawyers to enter into an agreement with a client without any problems. Starting next year, all warrants will be issued electronically,” he said.

Today, April 3, 2024, the first meeting of the Pardon Commission under the President of Azerbaijan will take place. APA reports that appeals will be considered at the meeting.

The commission’s meetings will be held in connection with the pardon provided for on the occasion of May 28 – Independence Day.

A French citizen was arrested for secretly entering the Baku Metro depot and causing damage to state property, Trend reports with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan. Thus, during the investigation it was established that a citizen of the Commonwealth of Australia P. Han Paul, a citizen of New Zealand Ismael De Saint Quent and a citizen of the French Republic Clerk Tego Hugo illegally entered the depot of Baku Metro CJSC on the night of March 30, 2024, and deliberately caused damage to state property.

In a criminal case initiated under the relevant article of the Criminal Code, a citizen of the French Republic, Clerk Tego Hugo, was sentenced to 3 months in prison by a court decision; a preventive measure not related to arrest was chosen for the remaining persons.

Necessary investigative measures in the criminal case continue.
