The prosecutor asked the court to sentence the accused to 8 years and 3 months in prison.

He was charged under articles 178.2.4 (fraud causing significant damage), 182.2.1 (extortion committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy), 182.2.2 (extortion committed repeatedly) and 221.2.2 (hooliganism associated with resistance to a government official or other person performing duties to protect public order or suppress a violation of public order) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

It is noted that in order to combat such crimes, police officers installed information signs near public catering facilities and ATMs in the city of Sumgait in order to cyber-educate citizens, especially people who have reached retirement age. They contain detailed information about the most common methods used by cyber fraudsters.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs calls on citizens to be more vigilant and report such cases to the police.
