Officials of the Republican Sanitary and Quarantine Center have been brought to criminal liability, oxu.az reports with reference to the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Ministry of Health of Azerbaijan. It is noted that the Prosecutor General’s Office regularly carries out comprehensive measures jointly with the Ministry of Health to ensure and reliable protection of human and civil rights in the field of protecting public health, identifying and preventing offenses committed during the implementation of sanitary and hygienic measures, including bringing to justice persons who committed offenses .

As a result of the anti-corruption operation, the center’s general director Saleh Novruzi, deputy director Yadulla Balishov and head of the laboratory department Tahir Veliyev were detained.

A criminal case has been initiated under Articles 311.3.1, 311.3.2, 311.3.3 (taking a bribe by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, committed repeatedly and on a large scale) and 308.2 (abuse of official powers, resulting in grave consequences) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. It was established that these persons received large bribes from citizens for issuing certificates of hygienic compliance of certain goods/products.

The court imposed a preventive measure in the form of house arrest (with removal from the position) on all those detained; the investigation continues.

Last day, employees of the Sabunchi district police department carried out activities in the Baku villages of Zabrat, Pirshagi and Bakikhanov, during which a total of 188 piercing and cutting instruments intended for sale, which could be used to cause injuries, were discovered and seized from nine stores,  oxu.az reports with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

In connection with the instruments seized as material evidence, an appropriate examination was ordered, and an investigation is being carried out against the persons detained in connection with the above.

During the operational activities carried out by law enforcement officers on April 30, drugs weighing a total of 11 kg were discovered in Azerbaijan, oxu.az reports citing the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

It is noted that more than 2.6 kg of heroin, over 5.8 kg of marijuana, about 2.5 kg of opium, as well as 86 tablets of the psychotropic substances methadone and methamphetamine (“ecstasy”) were seized from illicit trafficking.

Decisive measures to combat drug trafficking continue.
