As a result of successive operations carried out in the Bilasuvar region, persons intending to deliver drugs to Baku were detained. A total of 9 kg of various types of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances were found in their possession, oxu.az reports with reference to the Lankaran regional press service group of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Employees of the Bilasuvar district police department detained a resident of the Absheron district, Sahib Ismayilov. About 5 kg of opium, marijuana, methamphetamine and 140 methadone tablets were found and confiscated from him.

During another operation to combat drug trafficking in the Bilasuvar district, a resident of the capital, Rovshan Allahverdiyev, was detained. 4 kg of opium, heroin, marijuana and methadone tablets were found in his car.

During the investigation, it turned out that both detainees were involved in courier activities by foreign drug dealers and agreed to deliver drugs to the territory of Baku for a reward.

An investigation into these facts is underway.

It is noted that in December last year, Elvin Jafarov was questioned as a witness at a trial related to the theft of 143 million manats from the Ministry of Defense.

He planned to deliver these drugs to individuals for financial gain.

In Azerbaijan, on May 2, police officers discovered and seized more than 20 kg of drugs, Report informs citing the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

More than 19.5 kg of drugs seized from illicit trafficking was marijuana, the rest was heroin, opium and methamphetamine, as well as 130 methadone tablets.

The order of President Ilham Aliyev to provide one-time financial assistance will cover about 3,000 people, including participants in World War II and other persons mentioned in the document, Report informs. One-time financial assistance will be transferred by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population to the bank accounts of World War II participants and other relevant persons.

It is noted that in order to implement the order of the head of state, 3 million manats will be allocated from the reserve fund of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan provided for in the state budget for 2024.
