Police officers hold operation in Baku

On October 7, 2016 Baku City Main Police Department’s police agencies took comprehensive measures, with 2000 employees being involved in, to protect public order and public safety, prevent and solve crimes, as well as ensure road traffic safety, the Interior Ministry told APA.

4 people, who committed various crimes, and 29 wanted people were detained as a result. Besides, under the Administrative Offenses Code, relevant measures were taken against 225 citizens over being engaged in street trade, 53 over idleness and begging and 2 over prostitution, 1416 over violating passport regime, 31 over minor hooliganism, 74 over violating unsanitary rules, 2 over illegal construction, 3 over violating the law on advertising, 1 over deliberately disobeying illegal demands of the police.

Traffic police officers of the State Traffic Police Department issued protocols on the administrative violations under relevant articles of the Code of Administrative Offences in Baku in cases of violation of traffic rules by 1565 drivers and flagrant violation of these rules by 223 drivers. They brought 68 cars in which various sound signals, mufflers, lights, blinds, films and other illicit car accessories were installed to temporary stop. They detected 192 drivers having unpaid fines. One driver was detained for auto-hooliganism. Police officers took measures against 40 drunken drivers, 395 drivers not following the stopping requirements and 504 pedestrians crossing the road in prohibited areas.

Some 571 people died, 1,555 were injured in 1,499 traffic accidents recorded in Azerbaijan in Jan. – Sept. 2016, the Main State Traffic Police Department told APA on Oct. 10. 2016.

Compared to the relevant period of last year, the number of traffic accidents decreased by 164 cases (9.9%), the death toll – by 95 cases (14.3%) and the number of injured – by 191 cases (10.9%).

During the period, 490 traffic accidents occurred in Baku. Consequently, 138 people died, 515 people were injured. Compared to 2015, the number of traffic accidents decreased by 110 cases (18.3%), the death toll – by 37 cases (21.1%) and the number of injured – by 130 cases (20.2%).

The preliminary investigation into the case of Zulfugar Mikayilov, Elman Aghayev, and others, all of whom were detained over last year’s Nov.26 armed incident in Baku’s Nardaran settlement, has come to a close, APA reports. 

Case materials will be submitted to the court after being reviewed by attorneys.  

Taleh Baghirov, leader of the Muslim Unity Movement, was arrested last year in an operation conducted by the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime in Nardaran. Elman Seydamir, Zulfugar Sadraddin, and many others were arrested with thim.

Two police officers and four residents lost their lives in the crackdown.  

The investigation into the case of all those detained is divided into two. The Baku Court on Grave Crimes is continuing the trial of Taleh Baghirov and 18 others.
