Court on Rasul Jafarov’s case

15 April 2015 the Baku Court on Grave Crimes on Wednesday held another hearing on the case of Rasul Jafarov, the chairman of the Human Rights Club, APA reports.

During the hearing, public prosecutor Mubariz Mirili, on his right of reply, has responded to the defendant’s claims that the prosecution is biased.

“That is untrue. The accusing side is absolutely unbiased,” he stressed.

Later on, Rasul Jafarov made the final plea, noting that he has always respected the investigative body.

“I appeal that I shall be acquitted based on my speech and those of my attorneys,” said Jafarov.

A verdict will be announced at the next hearing scheduled for April 16.

Note that, Rasul Jafarov was arrested on August 2. After interrogation at the Investigation Department on Grave Crimes under the Prosecutor General’s Office, he was convicted of illegal entrepreneurship, tax evasion, and abuse of official powers. Nasimi District Court sentenced him to pre-trial detention.

Jafarov faced additional charges under articles 179 (misappropriation) and 313 (falsification of documents).
