Former Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to CE declared wanted

Former Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to the Council of Europe Arif Mammadov has been declared wanted, the General Prosecutor’s Office told APA.

Under the work plan for 2015 of the Chamber of Accounts, taking into account the suppositions of illegal usage of budget funds allocated for permanent representation of Azerbaijan to the Council of Europe in 2007-2012, inclusion of false information in the official documents, failure to protect state secret and provide accountability, and damaging the state by allowing several serious shortcomings, inspecting materials were submitted to the General Prosecutor’s Office and the public was informed about it on July 15, 2015.

The investigation conducted by the General Directorate for Combating Corruption under the General Prosecutor’s Office confirmed those facts and a criminal case was filed under the Articles 179.3.2 (assignment or waste in large size) and 308.2 (abusing official powers entailed heavy consequences) of the Criminal Code.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Arif Mammadov, while serving as Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to the Council of Europe, committed the crimes of misuse of budget funds abusing his position and official powers, embezzlement of state property through assignment or waste in large size, and abuse of power by deliberately including false data in the official documents and other violations of law.
