Road accidents in Azerbaijan since early 2017

 

Some 162 people died, 411 others were injured in 407 road accidents that occurred in Azerbaijan in the first three month of 2017, the Main State Traffic Police Department told APA.

Compared to the same period of last year, the number of road accidents decreased by 12 (2.9%), fatalities – by 19 (13.8%) and injured – by 42 facts (9.3%).

Of 162 people, 44 people died, 134 were injured in 140 traffic accidents in Baku. Compared to the same period of last year, the number of traffic accidents decreased by 7 (4.8%), fatalities – by 13 (41.9%) and injured – by 26 facts (16.3%).

32.4% (132 accidents, 48 fatalities, 175 injured) of the traffic accidents were caused by overtaking and exit into the oncoming lane, 30.2% (123 accidents, 58 fatalities, 105 injured) by overspeed, 12% (49 accidents, 11 fatalities, 58 injured) by violations of rules of crossing intersections and 1.7% (7 accidents, 4 fatalities, 5 injured) by drunken drivers. 47.9% (195) of the road accidents were pedestrian-vehicle crashes, which left 66 pedestrians dead and 145 others injured.  

Seven children and teenagers were killed and 46 injured in the traffic accidents. Compared to the same period of 2016, mortalities and injuries from crashes with children increased by 2 persons and decreased by 11 persons respectively.
