Man detained for extorting money from businessmen by blackmailing on social networks

Azerbaijan’s law-enforcement authorities have conducted operational search measures against individuals who, after signing in on social networks, illegally extorted money from businessmen, threatening to disseminate defamatory information about them and undermine the reputation of the companies they run. Earlier, the head of a limited liability company appealed to the Interior Ministry’s Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime informing that a person called Tural, shared on social networks offensive, slanderous, untruthful information about their activity and demanded a large sum of money to stop dissemination of such kind of information, the ministry’s press service told APA.

As a result of the operational search measures, Baku city resident Tural Abdullayev was detained while receiving 3,500 manats from the company’s employees.

A criminal case has been initiated, the necessary investigative actions are going on.
