Attempt to smuggle valuable items across the border of Azerbaijan prevented

Azerbaijani customs officers prevented an attempt to smuggle a large batch of items of historical value across the state border, oxu.az reports with reference to the State Customs Committee (SCC).

Thus, on the basis of information received by the operational department of the Operations and Investigation Department of the Western Territorial Main Customs Department of the State Customs Committee, a Mercedes-Benz truck was stopped at the Red Bridge customs post, en route from Turkey to Russia in transit through the territory of Azerbaijan.

During the customs inspection of the truck, 15 polyethylene bundles were found hidden in the cab and trailer.

They found objects of historical significance – four gold and 20 silver coins engraved with various symbols and hieroglyphs, made of bronze 18 pendants, 22 crosses, five cube-shaped objects, four polygonal, one octagonal, 280 rectangular objects with various symbols, as well as 10,800 round copper objects with hieroglyphs.

According to the conclusion of the State Expert Commission of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the confiscated item belongs to the beginning of our era and the Middle Ages, the era of the Roman and Byzantine empires, has historical, artistic, museum, ethnographic and archaeological significance.

The matter is under investigation.
