Severe sentence handed down to drug trafficking defendant

In Baku, Kanan Aliyev, accused of drug trafficking, was sentenced to 10 years in prison, oxu.az reports. The verdict was announced at a trial chaired by Judge Ali Mammadov of the Baku Serious Crimes Court. The state prosecutor demanded that K. Aliyev be sentenced to 12 years and 6 months in prison.

K. Aliyev was detained in the Garadagh district of Baku in October last year. During the operation carried out by law enforcement agencies, 10 kg of heroin was discovered and confiscated from him. He was charged under articles 234.4.1, 234.4.3 (illegal manufacture, production, acquisition, storage, transportation, transfer or sale of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances or their precursors on a large scale by a group of persons by prior conspiracy or an organized group) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan .
