Coach accused of killing 7-year-old sentenced to 19 years

The trial in the criminal case of coach Mehman Khalilov, accused of causing bodily harm leading to the death of a 7-year-old child in Sumgayit, has ended. As APA reports, at the trial chaired by Judge Fakhmin Gumbatov in the Sumgayit Serious Crimes Court, the accused was given the last word. He said Fareed was his favorite student and social media had fanned the issue. At the meeting, a verdict was read out, according to which M. Khalilov was sentenced to 19 years in prison.

Previously, a criminal case was initiated against M. Khalilov under Article 126.3 (intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm, resulting in the death of the victim through negligence) of the Criminal Code of the Azerbaijan Republic.

During the preliminary investigation, M. Khalilov was charged under articles 120.2.4 (intentional murder committed with particular cruelty or in a generally dangerous manner) and 120.2.9 (intentional murder of a person known to the perpetrator to be in a helpless state, as well as associated with kidnapping or hostage taking) of the Criminal Code of the AR. By a court decision, a preventive measure in the form of arrest was chosen against him.
