Tofig Yagublu became a political prisoner for professional activity

According to the statement of Editor of Chief the newspaper “Yeni Musavat” Rauf Arifoglu their observer Tofig Yagublu is not guilty on any of the accusations, since went to Ismayilli 10 hours after beginning of the unrests, when there was already exposed the police cordon. He and a cameraman named Anar showed their service cards and were allowed to pass through the police cordon, but soon they were detained. Once the editor applied to a chief of the district police, they were released.

However, February 4, Yagublu and a head of the movement REAL Ilgar Mammadov were arrested and accused with violation of public order and resisting the authorities.

This action of the authorities the editor explained with the fact that Yagublu was a single reporter who went to the village Shulaveri in Georgia and had interviewed Mardun Gumashyan, whom the Azerbaijani authorities accused in organization of terror action in the Oil Academy on April 30, 2009.

Having been in home of the baker Gumashyan, he depicted a life of the “terrorist wanted by the Azerbaijani authorities” and came to a conclusion that he is a normal workaholic, and no one is looking for him. On request of Yagublu, Interpol also answered that there was not in their file “terrorist” like above mentioned person.
