Leyla Yunus is awarded the prize named after Theodore Hacker

On May 5, 2013 Leyla Yunus, the Director of the Institute for Peace and Democracy, was awarded the international prize award named after Theodore Hacker.

Lord Mayor of the city Jürgen Seeger, speaking at the ceremony, praised the contribution of Leyla Yunus in the protection of human rights and civil freedoms in Azerbaijan. He noted that the Azerbaijani government, violating its international obligations, broadly violates the rights and freedoms of citizens, routinely making state violence over people.

International reports show a grim picture of human rights in this country, Seeger said, pointing to the fact that on the index of corruption, Azerbaijan ranks the 134th in the world, and on the index of Liberty it ranks the 156th.

First time I saw this frail woman last year, during the Eurovision contest in May in Baku, when she participated in the protest action in the streets of Baku; I realized what she is difficult she conducts against a corrupt regime, said George Restle , the editor of the German TV channel ARD. Yunus was awarded the prize for the courageous struggle in protection of human rights, democracy and the ideals of humanism.

International Organization for Legal Researches is joining to the congratulations and wish a strong human rights defender and her close relatives a strong health, prosperity, luck, all the best and fulfillment of the desires.
