Court of Appeal upholds the young activist in jail

Baku Court of Appeal refused to satisfy the complaint of a member of the NIDA Movement Omar Mammadov, who asked to cancel the decision of the Court of First Instance and justify it, contact.az reports.

Omar Mamedov was arrested on January 24, 2014 on charges of drug-related crimes,  on June 4  the Serious Crimes Grave sentenced him to five years in prison.

A 19-year-old Omar Mammadov is the leader of the youth movement “Akhyn” and a member of the party “Civil Solidarity”. After his arrest, he joined the NIDA Movement. Before his arrest Mamedov was an active blogger and user of facebook, where he posted the cartoons and collages, as well as comments, was one of the administrators pages “Selections from AzTV”. On this page, the policy of the government of Azerbaijan was sharply criticized.

In October, Omar Mammadov who is kept in jail no. 3 petitioned for clemency, as well as appealed to the leadership of the party “Civil Solidarity” with the request to exclude him from the party.
