Azerbaijan issues international arrest warrant for pawnshop owner

Azerbaijan’s law enforcement agencies have issued an international arrest warrant for a pawnshop owner who fled the country after defrauding hundreds of citizens, APA reports.

Tahira Alaz, 52, is convicted of swindling, according to the notice posted on Interpol’s website.  

According to information, she was an owner of a pawnshop situated at 192 F.K. Khoyski Str. Narimanov district, Baku.

Hundreds of citizens mortgaged pieces of gold in that pawnshop in return of money. After winning the trust of the citizens, Tahira Alaz shut down her pawnshop and left the country. She is said to be hiding in Turkey.  

The Narimanov district police department told APA they have received plenty of complaints about Tahira Alaz. Police are continuing the search operations to find her.
