Drug smuggling prevented

On March 19, as a result of interaction between the coast guard of the State Border Service (SBS), technical observation points and a border vessel, drug smuggling was prevented in the southern part of the Azerbaijani waters of the Caspian Sea.

As Oxu.Az was informed by the State Border Guard Service, a border vessel was sent in the indicated direction to intercept the target detected by the technical observation points of the coast guard. Border units were also informed about this and took prompt measures to cordon off the coastline.

As a result, near the territory of the Gizylagaj State Nature Reserve, a resident of the village of Balygchilar, Lankaran region, Jafar Agayev (born 1989), was detained, who was trying to land on the shore in a boat equipped with a Yamaha-25 engine.

During the inspection of the craft, almost 30 kg of marijuana, a Baikal hunting rifle, 24 rounds of ammunition, a Garmin GPS device, and Samsung Galaxy A5 and KGTEL mobile phones were found in it.

Operational and investigative measures are ongoing regarding this fact.
