Trial of a former judge accused of receiving a large bribe

A preparatory hearing for the case of former judge of the Barda District Court Elsun Akhmedov was held at the Ganja Court of Grave Crimes, oxu.az reports. The trial was chaired by Dadash Imanov. The accused ex-judge is defended by five lawyers.

The next trial is scheduled for May 1, 2024.

It is noted that due to the identified professional shortcomings in the activities of E. Akhmedov, by the decision of the Judicial-Legal Council for Assessing the Activities of Judges dated December 21, 2023, his term of office was not extended.

Based on preliminary evidence collected in the case, Elsun Akhmedov was detained as a suspect, and on February 8 he was charged under Article 311.3.3 (receiving a large bribe) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. Based on the petition of the investigative body and the presentation of the prosecutor who carried out the procedural management of the preliminary investigation, the court decided to select a preventive measure in the form of house arrest.
