In 2023, 45 people were extradited to Azerbaijan from foreign countries, oxu.az reports. This is reflected in the report on the activities of the Cabinet of Ministers for last year.

It is noted that during this period, the investigative authorities received relevant petitions in relation to 100 persons put on the international wanted list on charges of committing criminal acts in the CIS countries and identified on the territory of Azerbaijan. Of these, 17 applications were satisfied, the extradition of 71 persons was refused, four applications were withdrawn, and eight were left for the next reporting year.

According to the information, 24 citizens were extradited from Russia, five each from Georgia and Ukraine, four from Belarus, two each from Moldova and Poland, one each from Germany, Great Britain and Lebanon.

Last year, Azerbaijan extradited 18 people, including 11 to Russia, 5 to Uzbekistan, and one each to India and Turkey.

Last year, a criminal case was opened in Azerbaijan against 45 people involved in illegal religious propaganda. APA reports that this is stated in the report on the activities of the Cabinet of Ministers for 2023.

According to the information, administrative measures were taken against 163 people. 2.4 thousand units of religious literature, brochures, magazines, booklets, CDs and other items, 296 images of a religious nature, 69 religious flags, as well as 1 unit of bladed weapons were discovered and confiscated from these persons

The implementation of the state program in 2022-2026 requires the allocation of about 32 billion manat. In 2021-2023, 12.1 billion manats were allocated from the budget for the liberated territories. As APA-Economics reports, this is stated in the report on the activities of the Cabinet of Ministers for 2023.

Last year, 5 billion 588 million manats were allocated from the state budget for the restoration of liberated territories.

On March 4, 2024, as a result of operational activities of police officers in Azerbaijan, more than 38 kg of narcotic drugs were discovered and seized. Report informs with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

About 6.6 kg of heroin, more than 27.3 kg of marijuana, more than 3.1 kg of opium, more than 1 kg of methamphetamine and 5,000 methadone tablets were seized from illicit trafficking.

The Supreme Court has completed a hearing on a cassation appeal against the verdict against the director of the Barda Vocational Lyceum, Shamil Shukurov, and the chief accountant of this educational institution, Elman Akhmedov, oxu.az reports. At the trial, chaired by Judge Vidadi Jafarov, a ruling was read out, according to which the lower court’s decision was completely overturned. The case was sent to the appellate court for retrial.

According to the verdict of the Ganja Court for Grave Crimes, both citizens were given a suspended sentence. The preventive measures taken against the accused in the form of house arrest and police supervision were replaced with a written undertaking not to leave. The defendants petitioned for their acquittal.

A criminal case was initiated in 2021, when employees of the Main Anti-Corruption Directorate under the Prosecutor General detained Sh. Shukurov and E. Akhmedov.

During the investigation, it was established that Sh. Shukurov, in a preliminary conspiracy with the chief accountant, in the 2019/20 and 2020/21 academic years created conditions for 50 students who studied on a free basis for actual non-participation in the educational process, took away their scholarship cards in in exchange for permission not to attend the classes and a promise to patronize them. Thus, he cashed out 19,700 manats, sharing it with Elman Akhmedov.

Sh. Shukurov and E. Akhmedov were charged under articles 311.3.1 (receiving a bribe by a group of persons by prior conspiracy) and 311.3.3 (receiving a bribe on a large scale) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. By decision of the court, a preventive measure was chosen in the form of arrest against Sh. Shukyurov, and police surveillance against E. Akhmedov.

Employees of the Main Police Department of Ganja and its subordinate bodies took a number of effective measures to identify persons involved in drug trafficking in the city, Report informs citing the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan. As a result of the operational search activities carried out, persons suspected of illegal trafficking and sale of narcotic drugs delivered to the territory of the country, including Ganja, were detained in various ways.

Thus, employees of the Anti-Drug Department of the Main Police Department, based on the information received, detained a resident of the Samukh district, Elshan Khalilov, who attempted to smuggle into the country a narcotic drug illegally imported from the Islamic Republic of Iran. During a search of the suspect, the drug “heroin” weighing 14 kg 926 g was discovered and seized in his bag, the cost of which on the “black market” is about 500,000 manats.

As a result of operational-search activities carried out by employees of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Main Directorate, a large number of narcotic drugs were seized from illegal circulation. Thus, 18 kg 400 g of dried marijuana were found in the bag of local resident Yashar Abbasov, who was detained by police officers. During interrogation, the suspect admitted that the drugs belonged to him.

In addition, as a result of operational search activities carried out by employees of the Main Police Department of the city of Ganja and its subordinate structures during the week, about 20 persons suspected of illegal acquisition, storage and distribution of narcotic drugs were detained.

During a search of each detainee, their cars, houses and other places, various narcotic and psychotropic substances were discovered and seized.

Employees of the Ganja Main Police Department continue efforts to identify other members of the drug network, as well as detain other persons involved in drug trafficking in the city.
