In 2023, the Financial Monitoring Service of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Azerbaijan carried out control activities in 126 organizations receiving funds from the state budget. The Ministry of Finance reported this to APA-Economics.

As a result of inspections in 90 organizations, excessive and unjustified payments in the amount of 586.9 million manats were identified, customs payments in the amount of 131.9 million manats were underestimated, as a result, funds were underpaid to the state budget.

A person put on the wanted list by Russia has been extradited to this country. As APA reports, this was reported by the Prosecutor General’s Office of Azerbaijan.

The request of the General Prosecutor’s Office of Russia for the extradition of Russian citizen Alexey Olegovich Kuntsevich, born in 1995, who was put on the interstate wanted list, for prosecution, was satisfied by the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Alexey Kuntsevich, accompanied by a Special Convoy of the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice, was handed over to the authorities based on a request from the Russian side.

The Baku Grave Crimes Court recently completed the trial of 34-year-old resident of the Agdam district Gunesh Gasymova, accused of large-scale fraud, haqqin.az reports with reference to the investigation materials. Thus, Gasymova abused the trust of her friend Valida Gahramanova (name and surname have been changed – ed.), convincing the latter of her ability to solve absolutely any family problems.

Since February 2022, Gasymova has confiscated 125 thousand manats from her victim in parts. Gahramanova’s husband found out about all this: it was he who contacted the police. Gasymova was arrested.

In court, the fraudster admitted her guilt. She reported that she was able to deceive the gullible Gahramanova, assuring the latter that she had superpowers. The money was transferred to the swindler’s card: this was done by Gahramanova’s mother.

Gunesh Gasymova was sentenced to 7 years in prison.

An Azerbaijani citizen was arrested for financing terrorism. As APA reports, in a criminal case initiated by the State Security Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan, citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan Abit Mardanov was arrested for criminal acts and charged under Article 214-1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Combating Drugs conducted an operation called “Narkotələ-40,” APA reports citing the ministry’s press service. Thus, the Main Directorate for Combating Drugs during February carried out more than 40 operations in capitals and regions against drug trafficking. As a result, 52 people and 3 members of an organized group were detained.

10 of them are persons involved in the supply of drugs in the country. In total, 151 kilograms of narcotic drugs worth 5 million manats and 4,751 tablets with psychotropic substances were seized.

During the preliminary interrogation, it was established that the majority of those detained illegally acquired drugs brought to Azerbaijan from Iran, mainly for sale in the capital.

A criminal case has been opened against Speaker of the III Republican Platform Akif Gurbanov, oxu.az reports with reference to his lawyer Shahla Humbatova. According to her, A. Gurbanov was charged under Article 206.3.2 (Smuggling committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy) of the Criminal Code of the Azerbaijan Republic.

Toplum TV employee Farid Ismayilov is accused under the same article of the Criminal Code. The relevant information was disseminated by his lawyer Zibeyda Sadigova.

On March 6, 2024, employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan carried out an operation at the office of the Internet channel Toplum TV and at several other addresses.

In Azerbaijan, an official was arrested on suspicion of complicity in evading military service in exchange for a bribe. Report informs, this was stated in a joint statement by the Prosecutor General’s Office and the State Service for Mobilization and Conscription.

He is Humbat Nabiyev, a senior officer of the Nizami district department of the State Service for Mobilization and Conscription. The Main Anti-Corruption Directorate of the Prosecutor General’s Office has opened a criminal case against Nabiyev on charges of receiving a bribe in the performance of his official duties.

During the investigation, it was established that in exchange for a bribe, Nabiyev helped a citizen obtain a deferment from conscription for military service. He then demanded a large bribe from the citizen in exchange for the issuance of a military certificate of unfitness for active military service in peacetime, limited fitness in wartime.

Based on the information collected, Humbat Nabiyev was detained as a suspect and then arrested by court order. He was charged under Article 311.3.3 of the Criminal Code of the Azerbaijan Republic.

“As a result of the investigation, all participants in this criminal act will be identified and brought to justice,” the joint statement said.
