The trial in the criminal case of the murder of Azer Garashov, the brother of the head of the Lankaran Executive Power, Taleh Garashov, has ended. According to oxu.az, in the Lankaran Court of Serious Crimes, chaired by Judge Jalil Nabiyev, a verdict was read out, according to which the accused Azay Garashov was sentenced to imprisonment for a period of 10 years.

The incident was recorded on July 26 last year in the village of Pirekecha, Kurdamir region. In connection with the death of Azer Garashov (born 1975) from a gunshot wound, the prosecutor’s office of the Kurdamir region opened a criminal case under Article 125 (incitement to suicide) of the Criminal Code of the Azerbaijan Republic, and appropriate examinations were ordered.
Azai Garashov was charged under Article 120.1 (premeditated murder) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Last year, the State Security Service (SSS) conducted a preliminary investigation into 190 criminal cases against 340 individuals, oxu.az reports with reference to an article by the head of the State Security Service, Colonel-General Ali Nagiyev, published in the Respublika newspaper.

According to the article, 27 criminal cases were related to high treason, 12 to espionage, 7 to an attempt on the life of a statesman or public figure, 35 to terrorism, recruitment of terrorists and participation in armed conflicts outside Azerbaijan.

As part of measures to compensate for damage caused in criminal cases being processed by the State Security Service, or to confiscate funds obtained by criminal means to the state budget, a total of more than 175 million manat was reimbursed and property was seized.

The prosecutor requested that those accused of murdering the former vice-rector of Tefekkur University, Tariel Akhmedov, the rector of this university, Mushfig Atakishiyev, Dayanet Guliyev and Samir Guliyev, be sentenced to 15 years in prison. Report informs, this was stated at the trial chaired by the judge of the Baku Court of Serious Crimes Siyavush Hajiyev.

The next court hearing is scheduled for April 6, 2024.

Mushfig Atakishiyev (customer) and Samir Guliyev (performer) were brought into the case as accused under Article 120.2.5 (premeditated murder for personal gain) of the Criminal Code of the Azerbaijan Republic; in relation to the first, a court decision was taken as a preventive measure in the form of removal from office and arrest, and in relation to the second – a preventive measure in the form of arrest.
